WHO I AM MATTERS :)
Thanks for (trying to) spending time reading my first ever blog, and I'd love to see all your comments.
- Describe where you come from
I was born and raised in Beijing for 18 years. With over 20 million residences inhabit here, it is one of the busiest and most diverse cities in the world. Because of the massive population and growing needs, you can easily find every thing you ask for here whether is food, entertainment, spiritual journey, or even ancient landmarks.
- Tell me where you're going& tell me how you plan to get there
This year is the last year of my college, which means I will no longer be a student staying in the ivory tower. I definitely put being very independent in every perspective and learn to shoulder responsibilities in life as my top priority. I'm going to enter the workforce related to my interest and secure financial independence in the near term. In the long term, I would digger every intriguing business idea and eventually find myself one to invest in.
- How are you LIKE your parents
First of all, I looked exactly like my father with slightly bigger eyes, and the gene makes us always talk and think in the same way. We love to listen to people’s ideas but at the same time love to being really critical of them. We always get into arguments with people with different opinions and really wanted to figure out the only right one.
- How are you UNLIKE your parents
It’s really hard to tell that my mother and I have a blood lineage from our appearance because she has a much more defined face structure. Not surprisingly, we think totally differently, and she is the one who pulls my father and me back on the rails when we are being extremely arguable. She has worked in government for her entire life and never been to foreign countries before, so her ideas are very conventional and traditional.
- Have you developed your own expectations for yourself, or if you were honest, would you say you're operating under someone else's expectations?
I would be taking Law SAT and applying to Law School if I continue following my family’s will. My perception of this world and my future was set up by my parents and my school before I left home at 18. I’ve been exploring what I really want to be and how can I get there for three years, and during which I talked to many people with different backgrounds and tried couple routes by myself. Me today is built upon many falls and tries.
- Who serves as a model for you of someone who lives life with great passion and personal responsibility?
Jack Ma is an entrepreneur and innovator that worth my deep respect. He found Alibaba a $100Billion worth Chinese e-commerce company that expands to almost every corner of the public’s life. I’m moved by his great passion for creating the biggest ever internet-based business in this world to connect common Chinese together and stimulate the production industry of this country. His idea of bringing benefits to as many people as possible and creating more job opportunities also inspired me to be a person who cares more about others.
- Connecting with the ANIMAL WORLD: What wild animal do you feel a special connection with, and why?
A Polar bear has always been my spirit animal. It appears to be very amicable and usually acts slowly, but it always shows great strength and endurance when dangers are approaching. I also love the ocean and enjoy every water activity, so does a polar bear. Merging myself in the water like a polar bear is the best way for me to find peace and serenity in this chaotic world.
- Connecting with the NATURE KINGDOMS: Describe a significant childhood encounter with a tree or plant.
My class in the elementary school has this tradition of planting a tree every April. I still remember how every kid worked together to make the tree grow faster and healthier. The tree we planted in the first grade was a pear tree and already higher than me at the time when I graduated. It is a important part of my entire childhood and definitely a symbol of growth and vitality always inspiring

Hi Yifan,
ReplyDeleteI really like the way you describe the similarities and differences between you and your parents. It remind me that I have never use this way to view my parents, and I feel so inspired by read your post. I probably got a chance to review the relationships between me and my parents.
I also agree that a secure financial independence is really important. To be honest, I would like to go to work rather than stay in school, but the fact is I still got two more years to go. Hope u can find sth really interested for you to invest in.
It's so regretful that we haven't have a chance to talk, but read your blog really made it up for me. See u in class soon.

It must have been difficult for you to try following parents' and teachers' expectations, but I respect that you decided to explore what you really want to do instead of ignoring your will.
ReplyDeleteI respect you for your independence and determination. It can be difficult to balance everyone's expectations and you carry it all well. I also loved your depiction of the polar bear, really a peaceful powerful creature. Great read, thanks!
