On the Road

I really admire Gloria's candid and timely manner in this book. Traveling halftime of her life is not a coincidence, and she started off by telling where this gene comes from and how does it contrast with the home wanted nature(false?) in her mind. Yet the difference comes from not only the other family members like sister and mother and her self-conscious education but most importantly the fact that SHE is a FEMALE. Realized the difference, Gloria traveled around the world and brought snapshots of female she saw and how the chemicals among them transformed feminism in the last century.

Gloria is always an activist. Feminism back to the time was a new creature, and Gloria pushed it to an even newer level by "feminism should include female from all background". I can imagine how exciting it would be when she spoke as a team with Dorothy and strived to transform the society instead of integrating with. Gloria never stopped moving and traveling; through traveling with female of different colors and ages, she grew a strong sense that not female of all colors are treated equally.

The 1977 National Women's Conference is a milestone of Gloria's life. It was mind-blowing to see a legislation called for federal funding for a TWO YEARS' long conference on women rights and wants. I appreciate their efforts in building bridges across states and minds, and the political and religious challenges they addressed. What I find difficulty understanding is the over highlighting of different races. AND this is a very common issue. On the one hand, she valued specific interests and needs and created opportunities to let them gather together; but on the other hand, she tried to gather all female together. The small groups in a big group sound not like the most efficient way to accomplish a challenging goal.

I enjoyed reading this book and found every detail and person make sense and change Gloria and mine set of mind.

[Second Half]

Traveling has been the way Gloria used to find ways expressing herself and demonstrated the female group in her life. Talking to people and expressing their thoughts has been the work and life for Gloria. At last, she felt that rather than forced to travel on the road, and she chose travel rather than having a home. Staying on the road is how she feels security and fulfillment.

I'm intrigued by her attitude to her partners and friends. Even though they are not physically staying together, Gloria ties to them through spreading their stories and finding the essence of their life journey. The conversations she had which further connects people from different background regardless of the consents is really powerful.
